When I was in high school, I loved taking the quizzes in my teen magazines. You know the ones that could tell you what kind of friend that you are or if the boy in your homeroom liked you or LIKED you. Now that I am a grown-up I still enjoy these types of questionnaires, although in some of the women’s magazines they seem to be a bit (ahem) intrusive. Well to introduce an exciting Mom’s afternoon out event that we have planned, I decided that having you take one of those fun quizzes was appropriate.
QUIZ: WHAT KIND OF A MEAL PLANNER ARE YOU?
Question One: You start thinking about your plans for tonight’s supper around …
- a. Five minutes before you had wanted to have dinner on the table
- b. Around 4:30 because your children are getting cranky and that reminds you to feed them
- c. At breakfast time because you want to put something in the crockpot
- d. The week before since you made out a meal plan last week before you went to the grocery store
Question Two: If a friend asks to see your pantry cupboard …
- a. You don’t bother because it is as empty as Mother Hubbard’s since your trips to the grocery store involve picking up enough just to get by, but you do have all of the local carry out places on speed dial.
- b. While your shelves may look a bit haphazard, you are sure you could come up with a meal or two or possibly at least a box of macaroni and cheese
- c. You keep the basics on hand and always have spaghetti, tacos and other go-to meals at your fingertips
- d. You give them a tour highlighting your alphabetized cans that allow you to have at least ten meal possibilities at all times
Question Three: When it comes to picking a recipe to follow, you …
- a. You just follow the directions on the back of the box
- b. You serve about the same thing every week
- c. You rarely make the same thing twice because you LOVE to try new foods found in your cookbook collection
- d. You rotate many tried and true favorites while adding a few new recipes to your repertoire every month
Before I tell you what your answers reveal, let me take the time to make a brief announcement.
THE GOOD LIFE MOMS ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE OUR VERY FIRST COMMUNITY EVENT!
On Saturday February 28th from 3:00 to 5:15, you are invited to a “Meal Planning Success” class presented by Nicole McDonald of Mom Saves Money out of Omaha. I had the opportunity to attend one of her classes in December, and she did such an excellent job of making meal planning manageable that I just knew I wanted to bring her to Lincoln, so that you all could hear her. Actually true confession: I missed part of the class because I thought it started at 7. So at 6, the true beginning, I was mere blocks away eating dinner. If I was that impressed by the last hour of her class, I cannot wait to experience the whole thing!
Not only will this class be fabulous, but so is the location: Sebastian’s Table. If you have never experienced Sebastian’s, you are in for such a wonderful experience enjoying tapas. Think of a plate full of bites of deliciousness perfect for sharing with friends. The best part might be that during happy hour from 4 to 6, all of their sangrias are half price. (Conveniently we will be taking a break at 4:00!) Having sampled two of their selections, I must say that enjoying one of these specialty drinks will bring your afternoon to another level.
Back to the Results of the “Meal Planning Quiz”
You answered all A’s: you should have signed up for the “Meal Planning Success” class yesterday. If you mention this opportunity, your family will be pushing you out the door. Go with it, girlfriend!
You answered all (or mostly) all B’s: You have begun the journey but are needing to know what to do next. Nicole will help you to continue on the path to success. (Baby steps, baby steps).
You answered all (or mostly) all C’s: While you are well on your way, you just need some suggestions to keep going strong. The surprising thing I learned from taking Nicole’s “Meal Planning Success” – I actually might have too many cookbooks. In fact, I make my meal planning difficult because I have far too many options. Learning how to simply is also important. When I took Nicole’s class, the location was the Omaha Steaks store. The first picture shows that I am already made progress – while the potatoes were homemade, the chicken fried chicken was purchased from Omaha Steaks (hey, it was a GREAT price that night). The whole meal got rave reviews. By using resources available to me, I was not stressed out from slaving over a hot stove for hours.
You answered all D’s: No question – you have it all together and are the envy of many moms. But you might be a little high strung and stressed out. You MUST unwind – Sebastian’s sangria is calling your name.
Unless we happen to have a full-time chef at our disposal, we could all benefit from meal planning a little more. After all, the more trips we have to make to the store to pick up ONE item, the more we spend. Or the more we order take out … AGAIN, the more our money seems to fly through the drive through window. Nicole’s class will help us to get organized in the kitchen.
Cost of the class is $15. Since Sebastian’s Table can’t exactly add on for us, space is limited. To register, please email email@example.com. Note: if you tell us you are coming, we are counting on that. So is Nicole who is kindly driving up from Omaha. We will establish a waiting list and can give someone else your spot if something such as illness comes up. Just communicate that with us please ASAP rather than just not showing up. Note: a big sale at the mall is not an emergency. Really, it isn’t. 🙂
We hope to see you there because we would love getting to meet some of our readers in person!
P.S. Nicole will also have signed copies of her book, The Extraordinary Art of Couponing on sale for $10 if that is another area that you would enjoy learning more about. Although many coupon books might be out there, finding one that helps you save money in Nebraska is a bit harder. Note: the above link does take you to Amazon where you can purchase the book if you are interested and cannot buy the title in person. That is Nicole’s affiliate link since that is her book. We try to be honest about such things. 🙂
